Although the balloon was very well equipped with survival gear such as,a satellite phone, VHF radios, a radar transponder and two mobile phones, their survival is at this point said to be "unlikely"

Scientists are studying a new type of genetically altered plants to see if they could help with the issue of global warming. These trees have been altered to be more efficient in that the amount of carbon they pull from the air is much greater. These new plants can also be altered to absorb more sunlight.
Do you think that creating more efficient trees will improve the global warming problem?

A San Francisco mother is angry with the schools for the, "carnival food" they are feeding her children. She decides to take a stand and realizes that because of lack of funding fresh food is hard to come by. The school has however made the necessary changes and now more schools are starting to do the same.
Do you think that funding for healthier school lunches should be increased?

Summary:
As the upcoming election season begins the ads have also started their reign over the media. This year however democrats are trying desperately to hold on to the 39 seats they need to stay in control of the house. The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee plans to spend $49 million in 60 districts this fall. For the republicans the biggest problem is whether or not they have the resources to pick up all 39 seats. The NRCC has only committed $22 million to 41 races. The republicans are glad to be on offense but this will be a fight to the finish to see who is able to grap all 39 spots in the end.
Critical thinking question:
While considering the funding and positions of each party, which one is more likely to grab most of the seats?
